REMEDIAL MASSAGE
Remedial massage therapist uses systematic assessment and treatment of the muscles, tendons, ligaments and connective tissues of the body, to assist in pain, injury and rehabilitation. As a remedial massage therapist, I understand how to treat clients using my knowledge of human anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology.
CHRONIC PAIN TREATMENTS
There are many complex causes of chronic pain. Massage has been shown to be helpful in treating both lower back pain and upper back/neck pain. My approach of assessing the client’s lifestyle management and remedial massage for musculoskeletal issues has shown to have ongoing positive benefit.
MASSAGE FOR ANXIETY & SLEEP ISSUES
Regular massage sessions have been found to decrease depression and anxiety levels and improve sleep quality, perhaps because they trigger the release of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that can help you feel calm. The technique has been found to benefit children and adolescents, as well. Experience has it is also helpful for students studying to help them cope with upper back and writers arm problems.
MEDICAL RECOVERY & POST OPERATION CARE
As a registered nurse I am well aware of the rehabilitation care after different medical procedures. Massage can be very helpful in the recover from hip and knee replacements. It works very well in conjunction with physiotherapy and other exercise programs.
DIABETES MUSCLE & FOOT CARE
Diabetes can affect joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments causing them to change making them stiffer. Massage has shown it is helpful in diabetes muscular problems, foot and leg issues. Diabetes can also cause nerve damage (numbness, pins/needles) on your feet known as peripheral neuropathy. It can affect the circulation in the feet. Poor circulation means that your body’s normal response to healing is reduced. People with diabetes are more prone to foot infections.
SCAR TISSUE
Massage techniques such as connective tissue massage; deep transverse friction massage, also known as Cyriax deep transverse massage, skin rolling and cupping have been found to be helpful in the treatment of scars and play an important role in the correct healing process. Remedial therapy such is dry needling or dry-needle technique, which uses very thin needles on an area considered painful or fibrotic, without medication; the objective of the technique is to loosen tissues, enabling the various layers to slide over each other, are involved in treatment depending on the scar.
PREGNANCY MASSAGE
During Pregnancy a lot of stress is often put on your back, shoulders, neck and abdominal muscles. Pregnancy massage is designed to relieve some of the aches and pains that are common during pregnancy. Pregnancy or prenatal massage is also used to reduce stress, reduce swelling in the arms and legs and relieve muscle and joint pain in pregnant women.
SPORTS MASSAGE
Sports massage has been used for centuries by athletes before, during and post training and competitive performance. Sports massage is also specifically tailored to different sports and sporting injuries. It is not a relaxing form of massage and can often be quite strenuous. It works by stretching tight muscles, stimulating inactive muscles and improving the condition of the soft tissue.
The aim of sports massage is to reduce the stress and tension that can build up in the soft tissues of the body during exercise.
TECHNIQUES OF MASSAGE THERAPY
There are many different types of techniques of massage. In 42 years of massage experience the most helpful remedial massage techniques have been soft tissue release, deep tissue, cupping massage and myofascial release techniques. Each client is different and therefore treatment plans are written for each client.
